As I write this, we are just closing down our booth at the EMEA NetApp Insight event in Dublin. This has been an excellent week for us where we have met with old friends and colleagues, and built a lot of new relationships that will stand us in good stead for the months ahead.
Highlights of the week for me have been our excellent party on Monday evening, the constant flow of partners and NetApp people through our booth, and the positive and enlightening discussions we have had around both our Data Protection product (DPX) and our new Enterprise Catalog (ECX).
The Monday evening party was hosted on a boat with capacity for 200 and with the flow of people we actually managed to share some time with 261! This is just the best way to kick-start the week and discussions that started over a glass of Guinness led to follow on meetings at the booth on the next day and hopefully to future sales opportunities!
I believe a good first judgement of success at an event like this is the number of people crowding around the booth waiting to speak to someone when they are free, and then how this compares to other companies selling products in our space. We were just inundated with people and a casual walk past other booths showed what a huge difference others were seeing; this is testament to our excellent sales team in EMEA and also to the interest people have in both of our products.
The product discussions were particularly interesting and we heard lots of examples of where we were being brought in to replace competing products that had been sold and then failed to meet the customer’s expectations. These events are not just about educating others and we were here to learn as well. Many side meetings were set up and this was a great opportunity for us to discuss with our partners the strengths they see in what we deliver and any suggestions they have for future enhancements.
This has been an excellent week and I must pass my thanks to NetApp for organising such a great event. I leave this beautiful city tired from long hours of talking and socialising but very excited about the opportunities ahead for us with our great sales team and product set.
